LLM in Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Sep 30, 2019

Some news of a more personal nature. Good news. I’ve been fortunate enough to receive some scholarship funding to support me through an LLM at City Law School.

Whilst being very grateful, I’m also feeling slightly petrified as I haven’t done any serious academic study since 2004 when I finished my MSc. To complicate matters the MSc was in a technical subject. Very different to the LLM in Civil Litigation and Dispute Revolution which I will be starting this year.

At the moment I’m faced with a long list of module choices from which I have 6 core modules from which I have to choose at least 3. I’m doing the LLM part time and have opted for 5 modules and a shorter dissertation.

My specialism offers

  • Civil Dispute Options
  • Mediation and Negotiation
  • Arbitration
  • International Commercial Arbitration
  • Energy Disputes
  • Advocacy: Trial Stories

With the option to audit one module every term I’ve decided to take 5 modules from my specialism (I won’t take energy disputes) and audit interesting or relevant modules from other areas.

This term sees me studying International Commercial Arbitration and I’m auditing Strategy, Diplomacy and Decision Making which after reading the module specification looks to have an interesting overlap with negotiation.

Lectures start next week!
